Exceptional within the Thames Set, this print depicts a London landmark: the 1750 bridge by the Swiss engineer Charles Labelye, soon to be destroyed and replaced by a new bridge. Whistler painted it being demolished in The Last of Old Westminster of 1862, on view nearby. Old Westminster Bridge is one of the smallest Thames Set prints and relates in scale and subject to illustrations in London guidebooks of the day.
