Artist and poet were brought together for this collaborative project by Hank Hine, who was then the master printer at Graphicstudio at the University of South Florida. Robert Creeley first mailed Susan Rothenberg several poems, but they did not resonate with Rothenberg. She then sent a group of her black-and-white animal drawings to Creeley, who wrote new poems in response. The result was "Parts" which Rothenberg recalled “ended up being a very special book,” complete with a vellum cover. Here the section of Creeley’s poem entitled “Dog Leg Wheel” accompanies Rothenberg’s haunting mezzotint.
