Many painters involved in the Fauve movement were profoundly changed after seeing Cézanne’s work at the 1907 Salon d’Automne. They were particularly influenced by the master’s investigation of form and depth. Raoul Dufy was no exception. In this carefully constructed landscape of 1908, as in other works from this period, Dufy has turned to a more rigorously controlled organization of space and form, without sacrificing a bright and rich palette.
