Full size, rectangular applique quilt in a variation of the "Friendship Dahlia" pattern featuring repeating blocks of a simple floral design with circular center, 8 oblong petals, and stem set on point within grid created by sashing.
The quilt is composed of 32 muslin blocks, separated by 2-1/2" wide sashing and surrounded by whole and half blocks of solid peach cotton which form the outer edges of the bed covering. Each applique block is approximately 12 to 12-1/2 inches square and appliquéd with a single dahlia flower motif consisting of a solid bright-colored circular center, eight slightly overlapping curve-edged oblong petals of various printed cotton fabrics, and a curved solid green stem attached at the middle of a petal and oriented on the diagonal . Each piece of fabric in the design is applied with small hand-worked stitches in white cotton then outlined in black thread with small running stitches. Blocks and sashing are joined with machine stitching, but binding, applique, and quilting are by hand. The reverse is of white muslin. The white binding is applied with about 1/2 to 3/4 inch showing on each side.
