Portrait of Peter Hoffman III by Jacob Eichholtz, 1820. Oil on canvas. Peter Hoffman (1774-1837) was the son of Peter Hoffman, (1742-1810), and his wife Mary Dorothy (Stirlin) Lloyd. On May 16, 1799, he married Deborah Owings (1777-1855), daughter of Samuel Owings, Jr., of Owings Mills, Baltimore County, MD. Here he is seated, facing front, head turned slightly left. His brown hair is brushed forward and curling around his ears. He has dark blue eyes and is wearing a black coat, a white waistcoat, and a shirt frill and stock. His right arm rests on a chair arm at the lower left, his gloved right hand holding a grey glove. The chair is upholstered in red and the background is grey-green.
