Based on the painting Philip IV as a Hunter, now attributed to the workshop of Diego Velázquez, ca. 1632 (López-Rey 251; Musée Goya, on deposit from the Louvre). Printed in brown-black ink. In describing this print (as well as 1996.48.5134), Fisher states that these impressions are "proofs before the edition of 1862, and each is extremely rare. Printed on chine in a bistre ink, they approximate the appearance of impressions from Manet's special edition of c. 1863."
