Plate from the book "Odes" by Frank O'Hara
According to Riva Castleman, Michael Goldberg began working on his prints in the spring or summer of 1957: "'Odes,' which O'Hara chose as the subject of all his contributions, including 'Ode to Necrophilia,' written for their book, and produced by the two men working on Mylar, though which each could see where the words would fall best (there are several manuscript arrangements made by the poet to go with Goldberg's painted Mylar composition). Goldberg was essentially an action painter, so it made considerable sense for him to paint his compositions on Mylar, which then were transferred photographically to screens." (Riva Castleman, "Floriano Vecchi and the Tiber Press," in "Print Quarterly" (Vol. 21, No. 2, June 2004), p. 137.
