Ronny Quevedo used gold leaf on carbon paper to reference the colonial exploitation and conquest of the Americas, a history driven, in large part, by the European desire for precious metals extracted from the earth. Black letters and arrows combine, here, with lines that simultaneously reference latitude and longitude on maps and the markings on a soccer field. The imprint of a tailor’s ruler along the top edge references the artist’s mother, who worked as a seamstress in New York City’s garment district. As a whole, the print meditates on the intersection between contemporary popular culture and global migration.
