Bourcard/Goodfriend only describes three states: 1 - pure etching, 2 - with addition of aquatint and drypoint, 3 - plate cancelled. However, a comparison of this impression with 1996.48.13476 demonstrates a variation in the amount of aquatint (surrounding the figure) indicating that there are intermediate states not described by Bourcard/Goodfriend.
