This sheet is probably a proof for the journal "L'Art" c.1879; the final published version includes the additional inscriptions "SALON OF 1879" above the image and "L'Art" and "Imp. A. Salmon" below the image. After the 1654 painting of Hendrickje Stoffels by Rembrandt in the Musée du Louvre, Paris (Bredius 111).
