Portrait of the artist, Eva Gonzalès (wife of Henri Guérard). Manet did two versions of this subject, Profile of Eva Gonzalès, turned to the left (Harris 68) and Profile of Eva Gonzalès, turned to the right (Harris 69). This print, however, is as described by Harris "a further, second-level version of this potrait is known in three proofs. Henri Guérard, Manet's friend and technical assistant...produced a plate by working from the image illustrated here, which printed, of course, in reverse, and made the signature legible." Filed under Manet.
