Vuillard designed this program for Théâtre de l’Oeuvre in 1894. The psychological tension seen between the distant male figure in stark silhouette and the lightly sketched woman embracing her children is very rare in the artist’s work, indicating that Vuillard tried to produce designs for his programs that related to the content of the productions.
