Get Your Life! (GYL!) is a youth-led production company that creates collaborative video projects between middle school students, practicing artists, and institutions. Emerging from an extended relationship between artist Lee Heinemann and the Better Waverly community art center 901 Arts, GYL! puts adult artists to work producing projects written, designed, directed, and performed by youth. Offered as a gift to the BMA upon the conclusion of the collective’s 2018-2019 Commons Collaboration exhibition, the Rainbow Pants represent a first step in expanding the collection to include cooperative and community-led practices, and to recognize artists of all ages, embedded in the creative culture of Baltimore City.
