Kyohei Fujita's decorative box series, Kazari Bako, draws on traditional Japanese lacquer boxes such as the suzuri bako (calligraphy or writing box) and the distinctive decorative style of Rimpa (or Rinpa) school from the Edo period (1615-1858). The title of this box refers to a famous pair of painted screens by the Rimpa artist, Ogata Korin (1658-1716).
