A rectangular sampler with both poems and numerous small illustrations or motifs. At the top is a poem beginning, "Remember well and bear in mind/ A faithful friend is hard to find". Another poem at the center left begins, "Save me O Lord/ from foolish pride," and a third at the center right begins, "Teach me to feel/ another's woe." The last two stanzas are from Alexander Pope's Universal Prayer. Between the top poem and those in the center are many motifs, including a 3 bay, two and a half-story manor house with two chimneys, an out building, an oval lawn, a windmill, a man in a top hat carrying a cane, a dog, a peacock, deer, other dogs or animals as well as several floral designs. Between the two lower religious poems/texts is a Tree of Life motif, and below this birds and floral pots and a cartouche for the signature. The signature is surrounded by a small floral oval. A narrow, squared off strawberry border surrounds the whole sampler.
This piece is framed in what appears to be an old carved wood frame that may be original to the work.
