Rye Bottle

1870

Physical Qualities Glass, silver, cork, 12 5/8 × 3 1/2 × 3 1/2 in. (32.1 × 8.9 × 8.9 cm.)
Credit Line Purchased as the gift of the Women's Committee
Object Number 1996.159.2
The grain motif that decorates this bottle appears to be rye, indicating that the bottle was made to contain rye whisky. The design was produced by electroplating silver onto glass, then using engraving techniques to add detail. The engraved silver contrasts brightly with the shiny brown glass.
