In addition to intimate interior views, Bonvin painted still lifes that
include a broad range of items, from fruits and vegetables as seen in
the first gallery, to arrangements of objects associated with various
pursuits such as writing, playing music, or reading. Here, he depicts
a humble pair of shoes. Although simple in composition and choice
of subject, the work is distinctly eloquent and moving.
