1739-1759

Physical Qualities Walnut; tulip poplar and white pine secondary woods; replacement haircloth upholstery, 37 3/4 x 18 1/4 x 17 3/8 in. (95.9 x 46.4 x 44.1 cm.)
Credit Line Purchase with exchange funds from Bequest of Lucy Ridgely Seymer, and The Mary Frick Jacobs Collection
Object Number 1975.36.1
When compared to other side chairs of this period, there is a notable absence of turned members. The matching chairs have an architectural quality in the blocking on the legs, in the shape and design of the chair back, and in their marked verticality. An examination of the slip-seat frame reveals the original covering was black leather, but the current seat covering is made of black haircloth upholstery.
