This impression appears to be between Schneiderman's states iii and iv. According to Schneiderman, state iii has an "unworked oval area"; in state iv drypoint work fills the oval area and the plate was "printed 'cosmetically' with the impression of a fake plate mark on the left." In this impression, the oval area is filled in but it lacks (?) the fake plate mark. State iv was published in P. G. Hamerton's book Etching and Etchers.
