Design: border and series of narrow bands. These, 1' wide, are alternately in red and black, patterned with a bird in a diamond frame. The border, red, has an allover diaper filled with a bird seen from below or a floral rosette (5 1/2" wide). Technique: simple floated designs can be woven on a two-harness loom, one for the ground weave, the other for the pattern. The pattern wefts lie loose on the back when they are not needed for the design. (Schmidt-Pizarro notes that this is the only preserved part of a woman's dress.)
