reddish brown pattern rubbed on, dark brown design is painted on. Dark brown border; dark brown paint used to subdivide cloth into 24 squares of equal size. 2 patterns of dark brown design fill squares in alternating rows: first pattern is 2 rows of half circles; second pattern is 2 or 3 rows of arcs on diagonal. 1 row has 2 arcs, second row has 3 arcs. Direction of the diagonal alternates every other row of arcs. Reddish-brown and dark brown pigments

Mrs. Innis says her husband obtained the tapa ca. 1938 during his naval tour of the Pacific. She doesn't remember precisely where he got the tapa cloth. He went on to become an Admiral.
