Fragments of antiquity, from the miniature to the monumental, permeated daily life in Rome and drew people from across Europe to the city. Stefano della Bella’s rendering of the remains of the Temple of Concord is notable because it locates the ruin in a living, breathing city rather than isolating it as an object of study or aesthetic admiration.
