In this busy studio, artists of all ages are hard at work drawing, painting, and learning the human form. Odoardo Fialetti’s etching served as the frontispiece to his didactic drawing book published in Venice, Italy, in 1608. The book contains 37 illustrations of the individual parts of the human body. Such drawing books circulated across Europe, and may have helped inspire northern European examples, such as Abraham Bloemaert’s drawing book published later in the 17th century, displayed nearby.
