This print was produced as part of an album of original lithographs entitled Album des peintres-lithographes de Manet à Matisse published by Edmond Frapier. Here Bonnard drew an intimate view of a woman in a bathtub, a motif that had fascinated artists for many decades. This woman is no longer the carefree image of a Parisienne. Rather, Bonnard chose to portray the figure as though she is completely absorbed in her task, oblivious to the viewer. He also painted several images of female figures in bathtubs.
