During the late 1860s and early 1870s, Corot produced a number of paintings of single figures. In this example, the model Cécile is seated weaving a crown of flowers at the edge of a path. Enlivening the tranquil scene are the colorful blossoms adorning her hair and the bold decoration on the young woman’s rustic costume.
