Related to Manet's paintings of the same subject. According to Fisher, this impression is "a rare before-the-letter proof. It is very richly inked and in fine condition so that the black-and-white contrasts are very stark. But distinguishing between the several proofs that Manet wrote were printed in 1868 and the before-the-letter proofs that were made at the time of the posthumous edition, following normal practice, is impossible."
