In this view of the garden below his studio, Vuillard uses a high perspective to depict the early stirrings of spring. Surrounded by dull gray buildings, the organic forms of the greenery in the garden provide a delicate contrast. With the exception of a few orange dots, he has chosen to represent this greenery with a generalized natural form, avoiding detail. A female figure sits outside, probably unaware of the artist upstairs.
