After the 1633 painting by Rembrandt in the Alte Pinakothek, Munich, inv.no.394 (Bredius 548). This print is from a series of nine plates after Rembrandt paintings, "La Galerie Electorale de Düsseldorf" (Basel: 1778), all etched by Hess after paintings then in the collection of the Elector Palatine Karl Theodor in Düsseldorf. Most of these paintings are now in the Alte Pinakothek in Munich.
There are four prints in the Garrett Collection from the series: 1946.112.2190, 1946.112.2191, 1946.112.2192, 1946.112.2193.
