Nakahashi, who moved to New York in 1973, maintained a lifelong engagement with Surrealism, either from his chance encounters on the city streets or through careful arrangement in his studio. Here, he depicts time’s passage and its weight by placing two alarm clocks on a scale. By creating an imbalance between one clock set to 12:04 and the other set to 12:15, Nakahashi suggests that time is subjective.
