Stacy Lynn Waddell’s images of tropical landscapes call into
question attitudes toward coastal ecologies enduring inclement,
even violent, weather. In response to works by well-known
artist Winslow Homer, such as the drawing of windswept palms
suggestive of high winds and potentially damaging storms
located on the adjacent wall, Waddell created this brightly
colored and metallicized tropical sunset. Her work points out
the contradiction between idealized views of paradise and the
damage caused by human-made climate change on those
marine ecosystems.
