American ceramicist Hideaki Miyamura is best known for his iridescent glazes, as can be seen here with his signature Yohen crystal glaze. Yohen, a Japanese term for “stars glistening in a night sky,” aptly describes the mesmerizing luster of this vase. While creating his unique finishes, Miyamura formed and glazed over 10,000 test pieces during a five-year period. His simple and sleek shapes take inspiration from the natural world, as well as from traditional Chinese and Japanese tea ceramics. The vase’s delicately long neck and impossibly tiny handles have evolved from utilitarian features into decorative, non-functional forms. Elegantly shaped and glowing with the power of the stars, the Gold Vase evokes an enduring sense of tranquility..
