William Daniell and his uncle, Thomas Daniell (1749–1840), toured throughout India from 1785–1793. The imagery they recorded on their trip provided the basis for many paintings executed back in England, as well as several large print projects that followed. Lacking any landmarks, this watercolor appears to be a sketch drawn by the artist for his own pleasure.
