One of a number of proof wood engravings on Japan paper in the Lucas Collection which were published as illustrations to articles or books by Theodore Child. This one appeared in Theodore Child, Wimples and Crisping Pins: Being Studies in the Coiffure and Ornaments of Women (New York: Harper and Brothers, 1895), p. 121.
