Like furniture and decorative arts, clothing can also follow art historical trends. Short semi-circular capes, a popular form of outer wear for women at the turn of the century, provided designers with large uninterrupted surfaces for creative ornamentation. This cape in a contemporary Art Nouveau style features appliquéd flowers of the same grey-blue wool and embroidered scrolls in off-white silk threads.
