Bathed in bright sunlight, his body casting a deep shadow,
a small boy plays a flute. Such imagery depicting figures in rural
settings engaged in simple activity is reminiscent of the art of the
American Realist, Winslow Homer, who painted comparable
subjects in the 1870s.
