The plate for this state/print has undergone multiple etches, with an etch creating the primary, darker deign and an additional grounding and lighter etch to create additional passages that appear fainter black. Extensive additional reworking of the plate through scraping and burnishing to remove/alter areas of the composition is visible throughout (SH)
