Center for Prints, Drawings and Photographs

The Nancy Dorman and Stanley Mazaroff Center for the Study of Prints, Drawings and Photographs (PDP) hosts rotating exhibitions that showcase diverse forms of art on paper and other collection highlights in a dedicated ground-floor gallery. But there is another way to see light-sensitive prints, drawings, and photographs that appear in exhibitions for only a few months at a time: the study room at the Dorman-Mazaroff PDP Center. This unique, publicly accessible resource makes our collection of more than 68,000 works on paper available for close study at any time of year.

Individuals ages 18 and older are welcome to make an appointment to view works on paper in the Dorman-Mazaroff PDP Center’s study room. Artists can seek inspiration or view examples of a wide range of materials and techniques. University students and faculty can study or teach using artworks, making connections across cultures from the 14th century CE to the present. Independent scholars and colleagues from other museums can conduct their research, and art lovers can spend time with old favorites or dive into something completely new.

College and university instructors are welcome to request study-room visits for their classes. Engaging directly with artworks in this “up-close-and-personal” format encourages students to think critically and build visual literacy skills in a dynamic learning environment. Curatorial staff may be available to support you in teaching from the collection. Not sure where to start? Explore sample object lists from recent class visits below.
