Tips for Visiting
Welcome to the BMA! Whether you’re visiting for the first time, exploring with family, or enjoying the perks of Membership, these tips are designed to help you feel more prepared and at ease. Take what’s helpful, move at your own pace, and enjoy your time with the galleries. We’re glad you’re here.
Tips for First-Time Visitors
- Admission is always free. Special exhibitions require a separate ticket. We ask all visitors to reserve a free general admission ticket before entering the galleries and complete a brief survey—this helps us better serve our visitors. Tickets can be reserved online or at the Welcome Desk.
- Plan ahead with our online resources. Be sure to check directions and parking information, accessibility resources, and what’s currently on view before your visit. Plan your visit.
- Start at the Welcome Desk. Pick up a map and say hello to our Visitor Experience team. They’re happy to share recommendations, point out highlights, suggest quiet spaces, or help you find family‑friendly stops.
- Wondering what you can bringinto the galleries? Take a moment to review our Visitor Guidelines and Frequently Asked Questions before you arrive.
- Go at your own pace. There’s no “right” way to experience the Museum. Whether you stay for 30 minutes or a few hours, you’re welcome to explore however feels best to you.
- Heading outdoors? Our Sculpture Gardens and Spring House are open from dawn to dusk and may close during storms or periods of extreme heat or cold. The Welcome Desk is always a great place to check in with questions.
- Make it a full visit. Stop by the BMA Shop for a unique souvenir or enjoy a meal at Gertrude’s Chesapeake Kitchen before you go. Become a BMA Member to receive discounts every time you shop and dine.
- Love your visit? Keep coming back! Becoming a BMA Member is a great way to support the Museum while enjoying special perks, invitations, and exclusive discounts all year long.
Tips for Families
- Strollers are welcome. Feel free to bring your stroller throughout the Museum.
- Changing stations are available. Every restroom is equipped with baby‑changing stations for your convenience.
- Need a little extra space? A Family Restroom is available in the Segal East Lobby.
- Baby carriers are welcome—with a few guidelines. Soft baby carriers may be worn on the front. For everyone’s safety, back carriers and hard carriers aren’t permitted.
- Take a creative break. Stop by the Joseph Education Center for hands‑on installations, art-inspired play, and a cozy spot for a quiet moment.
- Keep it simple. Little visitors often enjoy the Museum most by exploring just a few works or one special exhibition at a time. Even 30 minutes to an hour can be the perfect visit. And remember, you can always come back. BMA admission is free!
