About the Baltimore Museum of Art

Vision

A museum like no other, the Baltimore Museum of Art is a place where everyone belongs, where artists can lead, and where extraordinary art empowers us to build a more equitable, creative, and connected world.

Mission

As Maryland’s largest art museum, the Baltimore Museum of Art is nationally and internationally recognized for bringing people together through its talented staff and world class collection. Weaving art and ideas across time and geographies, the BMA expands understanding, deepens belonging, and inspires creativity and life-long learning.

2026-2030 Strategic Plan

The 2026-2030 Strategic Plan was developed through a thoughtful and collaborative process involving perspectives from both staff and trustees. There are four key strategic priorities, or “pillars,” that will focus the museum’s work and ensure the BMA delivers on its bold and ambitious vision.

Pillar 1: Connecting Local & Global

Establish the museum as a leading voice in exploring the intersection of local and global histories, using Baltimore’s history as an international crossroads to connect the city’s cultural narratives with global artistic traditions.

Pillar 2: Championing Artists

Fortify Baltimore’s artistic communities by nurturing local artists and expanding their national and global visibility, elevating the city’s cultural profile and the BMA’s place as a national leader in innovative practice.

Pillar 3: Centering Education

Position the museum as a statewide leader in arts education, advancing access to lifelong learning through the arts, and cultivating the confidence, curiosity, and agency of people of all ages to engage with art and ideas.

Pillar 4: Creating Community Partnerships

Reimagine the museum as a statewide catalyst for arts access, creative exchange, and community wellbeing through bold cross-sector partnerships that model collective impact for the cultural sector and communities across Maryland.
