Geesteranus (1593-1658) was a preacher of the Remonstrants in The Hague. See BM 1863,0214.747 and 1863,0214.748. After the painting by Westerbaen in the Mauritshuis.

Inscribed: Recto: in plate: "Arnoldus Geesteranus in Syn Leven Predikant der Remonstranten in den Haege"; in Dutch in lower margin, in nine lines, verses by G. Brandt: "Geestraan gij dorst wanneer de stomme Harders weeken, / Gehaate waarheit op uw ban en boete preeken. / Gy troud u toen gy treurd op't Loevesteinsche slot. / Soo vondt gy't soet by't suur, eer Hollandts vryheit keerde, / En uwe gulde tong den Haeg syn plichten Leerde. / Gy toont noch in uw print en oog d'aanminnigzeit / Der sachte seden, van soo meenig oog beschreit. / G. Brandt." At bottom: "Westerbaen pinx: / HBarÿ sculp:".
