The basket was made from native palm (chunga and naguala palm) leaves which were shredded, dyed with natural pigments, and needle woven into a design of 11 rows of variations on a squared spiral design. The design and enclosing grid outline, black against a white background, are based on Embera-Wounaan body painting motifs.
