Slender lotus leaves spread across the exterior of this Chinese bowl. This design was popularized by northern Chinese artists by the late 11th century and subsequently copied by southern Chinese kilns on 12th- to 14th- century celadon and white porcelain. Enormous quantities of Longchuan celadon wares were sent by sea to markets from Korea to Indonesia, Japan to Turkiye, and southern Somalia to northern Mozambique.
