Yue ware, China's first fine gray stoneware with a thin gray-green glaze, was accepted as tribute by the Imperial Court during the Tang (618-906) and Northern Song (960-1127) dynasties. It was also widely exported. A Ningbo kiln site excavated in 2016 contained several bowls with a similar layered leaf design. The 12th-century kiln produced wares for the court, elite classes, and export to markets including Korea and the Philippines. The Cirebon, a ship that sank in the late 9th to 10th century in the Java Sea in Indonesia, carried nearly 300,000 Yue vessels.
