A small square canvas work embroidery featuriing a calico cat sitting on a cushion. The cushion is placed on a crosshatched rug or floor beneath a red drapery drawn up in the center and falling behind, pullbacks on either side. The drapery is ornamented with a central gold tassel and gold fringe. The embroidery is worked almost entirely in tent stitch using wool embroidery threads in: dull red or dark rose, brown/black, light brown, dark gold, white, light yellow, beige, dark gray, gray, and light gray. The image is surrounded by a narrow band of black or dark gray embroidery. Both this embroidery and a companion piece of a dog are framed in original wooden frames with dark, deep coved sides and gold inner opening.
