A large rectangular panel of dark Jacquard-woven red fabric with a large-scale Art Nouveau design consisting of stylized multi-petalled floral motifs with three blooms each and squared leaves. The floral motifs are woven in yellow/gold wefts on a deep red silk-faced ground. They are surrounded at the top by an outline of mixed gold and red created by an alteration of the weave structure. Four floral motifs are repeated across the width of the fabric. [Repeat, per AIC catalog info on line is 29" (vertical) and 11-5/8" (horizontal). No verified as of 11-20-2010] The fabric is not reversible, but the pattern on the reverse does mimic that on the front with stiff dark maroon linen wefts replacing the yellow/gold wefts creating the background. [Weave structure per the AIC catalog is satin weave with patterning wefts bound in twill interlacings, Jacquard woven. The selvages on both sides of the panel are present. The top and bottom ends are cut and unfinished.
