Short retangular length of unbleached plain woven cotton resist-dyed with a chinoiserie pattern depicting Chinese figures, block printed in two colors of indigo blue with pin-work or picotage. Design includes seated man with dear, standing woman with boy, boy waving a flag, seated monkey (?), various birds, butterflies, and floral designs and a boat on waves with a canopy under which are two figures--one seated and one kneeling. The textile is block-printed with indigo blue in two shades with picotage dots adding features and detail. No slevages are present. The fabric is cut and unfinished on all four sides. This piece has been used right side down and sewn to batting and probably another layer of cloth as a quilted cover.
