Small printed Indian chintz mat or panel featuring central medallion surrounded by various "exotic" floral designs with buds and tendrils and an undyed ground. Multiple borders including innermost wider border feature large trailing floral designs, outer border divided into sections with narrow strips of blue ground and wider strips of floral designs and strips with intricate patterning. Designs are block-printed in mordanted red and black dyes. Red has lighter and darker shades used to distinguish details of floral design. Light indigo blue possibly added by hand. Light beige color also probably added by hand between small sections of borders. Red block appears very primitive whereas the black and the blue are more exact. The central medallion is composed of small segments containing floral designs. Dark indigo blue dyed cotton border several inches wide attached to reverse with hand stitches then brought to the front and turned under as a piping approximately 1/8 to 1/4 inch wide sewn with hand stitches. Lined or backed with a very small printed repeating pattern in blue/black and red on white or light natural ground.
