This jar provides an early example of imagery drawn from Buddhist, Confucian and Daoist traditions. The shaped panel on the left contains the Buddhist symbol of a lotus. In the central panel, visible through the front of the case, a Confucian scholar appears to be enhancing his appreciation for the flowering tree by composing a poem. One of the Daoist Immortals, He Xiangu holding her ladle, is visible from the right side of this case.
