Fitted coat of plain woven black silk heavily brocaded in gold metallic-wrapped threads in patterns of vines, leaves, scrolls, and floral designs. The fabric appears to have been woven as a sari and cut so that the corner ornaments and side borders aligned neatly with each side of the coat opening. The wide border design is at the bottom, narrower border along the front openings and sleeves, and other portions are adapted to the shape of the colllar. Between the hem and other borders the design becomes more open with floral and leaf forms scattered along floating tendrils. In the border areas, the designs are more ornate, with elaborate flowers and other motifs closely worked and little background silk showing.
The coat is narrow with long set in sleeves and a turn-down collar. A tab for a button closing is found on one side, but the corresponding button is missing. The lining is of a bright yellow-saffron silk. The hem is turned up. The sleeves and front openings are faced with the same brocaded fabric as the rest of the coat. Construction is by machine stitching with facings and collar finished by hand stitching. All stitching, hand and machine, is in white thread.
