Inspired by the pleated costumes on ancient Greek statues, and reminiscent of Mariano Fortuny’s famous pleated silk “Delphos” dresses of the early 20th century, Delphi takes advantage of modern polyester’s ability to be shaped or pleated with heat and to retain those pleats indefinitely. In addition to having great elasticity, the fabric has an iridescence created by using two differently colored threads for the warps and wefts. The same technique is seen in some oriental silks.
